Photo Frame Magnets

Problem Gambling Magnets
Photo frame magnets are now available from the Missouri Gaming Commission for recovering compulsive gamblers. The Missouri Gaming Commission provides a photo frame magnet to new applicants to the Voluntary Exclusion Program. The magnet set is also available upon request.

This magnet set is intended to be an additional tool to assist the recovering compulsive gambler in counteracting “triggers” by placing the photo frame magnet in a location that would be helpful for you in maintaining your resolve to refrain from gambling. Identify the events that can “trigger” your impulse to gamble and place the magnets where they can help to offset the trigger. The removable center oval magnet can be placed in a second triggering location, or where it is easily available to your family members. Both magnets list the 24-hour toll-free number of the problem gambling help-line.

For example, if you are a compulsive gambler who habitually visited a casino on your way home from work, the act of leaving work could be a trigger for you because gambling has previously followed it. Since it is not possible to avoid leaving work, as a recovering compulsive gambler you need to identify other means of avoiding or fighting this trigger. Some possibilities include placing this photo frame magnet (with an image of your #1 reason for quitting) in a highly visible location on your path out of work and/or taking an alternate route home. The magnet can serve as a reminder to help you strengthen your resolve to remain abstinent, and changing your route home can help to avoid the temptation to go back to your previous habit of stopping at a casino.

If you would like to receive a magnet set for yourself or a loved one, you may stop by the administrative MGC offices in Kansas City, St. Louis, Jefferson City, or you can request one by mail or email.
